Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains what data the moddy Discord bot ("we", "the Service") processes and how. We aim to process as little data as possible.
1. Data we process
To detect scam images and server-specific blocked media, the bot receives, via Discord, messages posted in servers where it is present. For each message it may process:
- Message metadata — such as the author's Discord user ID, the server and channel, and whether the message has attachments — used to perform and log moderation actions.
- Image and GIF attachments — downloaded transiently, converted into visual fingerprints, and compared against known scam hashes or the server's custom blocked-media fingerprints.
2. What we store — and don't
- Downloaded images are stored only temporarily while being hashed and are deleted shortly afterwards (typically within minutes).
- We do not maintain a database of user messages or user images.
- The global scam database contains reference fingerprints and may include reference images uploaded by the bot's operators.
- Server-specific blocked-media rules store the server ID, rule name, file digest, visual fingerprints, similarity threshold, the adding moderator's Discord ID and creation time. Custom reference files are deleted after processing.
- Moderation actions (for example, that a ban occurred) may be recorded in operational logs for reliability and abuse-prevention purposes.
3. How we use data
Data is processed solely to provide the moderation service: detecting scam images and server-specific blocked media and acting on matches. We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising or profiling.
4. Sharing
We do not share personal data with third parties, except as required to operate the Service (for example, the Discord API, through which the bot necessarily operates) or as required by law.
5. Data retention
Temporary image files are deleted shortly after processing. Operational logs are retained only as long as needed for the purposes above and are then discarded.
Custom blocked-media rules remain until removed. Server moderators can delete a
rule and its stored metadata using /moddy media remove. Removing the bot
stops scanning but does not automatically erase the server's stored configuration.
6. Your choices
A server administrator can remove the bot from a server at any time, which stops all processing for that server. For questions or requests regarding your data, contact us at the address below.
7. Children
The Service is not directed to children under the age required to use Discord in their jurisdiction. You must meet Discord's minimum age requirement to use the Service.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date above.
